A few weeks ago, I shared my thoughts about starting a wall art project. It all started when I looked up at my 25-foot ceiling thinking, "how am I going to fill the walls in this loft?" I looked at so many pieces of art in the course of two years that I stared to become overwhelmed. I finally took a break from it all and decided to wait until I could acquire the art pieces I'd REALLY love to have. By the way, my cousin, Nolan McCants is a fine art photographer and it has always been my desire to be a collector of his work. Until then, I decided to try something different, some creative.
I've always been a fan of wall decals, so I went to a local craft store and purchased this Wall Tree Decal Set (as pictured). I enlisted the help of my 15-year-old son to help me map out wall placement and in less than 30 minutes, it was done. Easy as pie. Since I didn't buy a Christmas tree this year - due to filling customer orders - I wanted to create something simple and festive with my wall tree. So, I took the holiday cards I've been receiving from family and friends and punched a single hole in the corners. I also bought a few decorative "nest ball" ornaments and tied them with raffia I had soaked in pine and clove essential oil. While visiting the home and hardware store, I purchased several wall hooks for hanging the ornaments. You wouldn't believe how wonderful my home smelled from the essential oils used. It really put me in the holiday spirit.
Now that I have received more holiday cards, I will fill up my tree. Not only it is a really simple and festive piece of wall art, I can keep the wall hooks installed and rotate the decor. For instance, in the spring, I will hang a few bird nests sprayed with Lavender and Rosemary essential oils, faux Robin's eggs and butterflies where the holiday ornaments once hung. You can essentially change the ornaments for each season.
If you try this project, please share your experience in the comment section below.
